About Us
At Abbeydale you will receive a warm welcome and every assistance in using and enjoying the facilities. The Club has seven squash courts and a modern, spacious fitness suite. It has a large squash membership offering plenty of games at all standards. Although founded as long ago as 1934, the Club has undergone considerable refurbishment both on and off the courts. Our Reception is staffed full-time and is here to help get the most out of your membership. Friendly staff will deal with your enquiries. Membership includes use of the Bar and Restaurant. The Club is easy to get to by bus, bike or car. It is situated on the A621, Abbeydale Road South, one of the main arterial roads out of the City Centre. With a large car parking area, the Club offers a convenient and well equipped club for squash, racketball and fitness. The site has many other sports activities as part of Abbeydale Sports Club, including rugby, cricket, hockey, lacrosse, badminton, table tennis and crown green bowling.
The Club is a members non-profit organisation and so we are solely focused on offering the best for our members. As well as full-time and professional staff we also have many volunteers involved in a wide variety of activities.
Our seven courts comprise one new international standard all-glass court with galleried seating (opened October 2003), two glass-back and four excellent traditional courts. We have a large membership playing both Squash and Racquetball and so can cater for all standards of players from beginners to advanced with personal coaching available from our Club Professional, Mark Hornby, a Level 4 qualified coach. We also have a very active Junior coaching scheme on Saturdays and Sundays as well as an active schools program. There are a wide range of coaches and volunteers involved in our Junior sessions. Guests are welcome but may only play six times in any one year and anyone who wishes to play regularly is encouraged to join.
Internal leagues, knock-out competitions, local and county league teams help create a lively atmosphere as do the "Sunday Club Night" sessions where players can be introduced to other members and games arranged. You need never be short of a partner.
You can join the Squash Club on its own or combine it with a Fitness Suite membership.
The popular air-conditioned fitness suite, opened in 1999 and extended in 2002, contains a selection of the best equipment. From your introductory assessment onwards, you will receive the supervision , advice and encouragement necessary for you to benefit fully from individually tailored exercise programmes.
